Inflation happening.

2022-10-01

There's a lot going on. There are a lot of things going on in the Czech Republic and abroad. Maybe about as much is happening as it used to, say fifty years ago, but today we know about all the events almost immediately and without delay, whereas years ago we simply missed many things. General orientation in a synthetic course of events with so many inputs is a difficult discipline and the vast majority of people automatically resign themselves to it at the first attempts to understand the context. A seemingly new factor is the confusion of the public with alternative information. This is a practice that works provided the prefabrication is reasonably conforming and the addressee is available and hungry. Authors and distributors have done this before, but changed circumstances have injected new blood into their veins. The dramatic increase in the availability of opinions, comments, ideas, suggestions, or just reactions, including photos and videos, along with the speed of their dissemination, are a major shift in this area from past times. Objectivity is an unattainable quantity, both subjectively and objectively. It is all the more difficult to find the pieces of the puzzle, put them in the right places and see the resulting picture, even though the interpretation may differ. We have almost exclusively bad news and rather depressing commentaries on it. There are exceptions, namely news of a neutral nature, or information that cannot be deciphered, its importance assessed and appropriately classified. For example. The second political upheaval in the West African state of Burkina Faso (formerly Upper Volta) this year and the associated significant loss of life. Photographs of Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin, in which she is not wearing a bra under her jacket, have fed the content of foreign and Czech tabloids. Speculation about the political roots of the new Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, and an assessment of the appropriateness of the standard congratulations on her election issued by the Czech government. The obligation to set up a data mailbox for citizens and companies from the beginning of the new year, with the not very emphasised and yet very important fiction of delivery. These are examples of neutral or not very clear messages in form and purpose. Their importance is negligible, their impact is small and their longevity is poor. In some cases, unfortunately, in others, thankfully. Their problematic importance is perhaps only in that they fill the space in which a creative debate could take place concerning, for example, the recent actions of the Czech National Bank and their interpretation towards inflationary or even stagflationary tendencies, their contribution to the creation of a desirable pro-growth environment, or the possible future installation of the euro as a national currency. As well as the development of the war in Ukraine, international relations and the impact of this on the orientation of our country. The just-concluded local and Senate elections, in which just under 20% of eligible voters turned out to vote in the second round of the Senate elections, are also worthy of attention. The trial of the former Prime Minister of the Czech Republic and the current government's so far somewhat platonic attempts to reassure the public by taking firm and clear steps in the area of energy affordability are certainly worthy of note. There is a lot going on. There is little time and space to deal with it.
