No win so far for the Czechs.

2026-02-16

The Czech men's team has so far suffered six defeats and no wins in the Olympic curling tournament. The most recent defeat was against the Canadian star team, which includes three Olympic gold medalists, Brad Jacobs, Ben Hebert, and Marc Kennedy. The fourth member is Brett Gallant, who played the entire mixed doubles competition that preceded the men's and women's curling tournaments. From the very beginning, it was clear that both Lukášes, Marek, Martin, and even Radek for a moment, approached the match with respect, which influenced the opening period. Despite promising starts, the Czechs let the Canadians pull ahead by four points with three stolen singles, which proved decisive given the current form of the Maple Leaf team. Brad Jacobs also brilliantly handled a difficult situation in the sixth end, and the Canadians increased their lead by three points. The result of two to eight and a handshake after eight ends ended the second third of the Round Robin match schedule. The Czechs' immediate previous losses to Great Britain and Italy were more expected, so expectations are now focused on the last three matches (Germany, China, and Sweden). The nervousness, unrest, and frantic activity on social media caused by the "finger" scandal will hopefully slowly subside, and curling will once again be the focus. However, what happened should not be forgotten. A prominent curler likely broke the rules, was called out on it, and responded in an unforgivable manner that deserved punishment. All possible mitigating circumstances should be taken into account, but it is necessary to ensure that similar controversies cannot influence sporting competitions in the future and, at the same time, cannot overshadow the performances and results that should be the essence of Olympic curling competition.
