Christmas is fast approaching and we'd almost forgotten that elections for the Czech Chamber of Deputies were held in early October. It's been a while now and time is ticking and ticking. Yet rarely has the situation surrounding the parliamentary majority been clearer than after these elections. The agreement of the "democratic" parties came about in a turn of events, and the announced cooperation of the two coalitions created a mathematically pleasing 108 seats on the side of the government's commitment. Then, when ODS approved the text of the coalition agreement on the feast of Charles (4 November), our most famous Czech (you can choose according to your personal preferences of Charles IV, Charles Gott or even another Charles), it was only a short wait for the Pirates and their approval or veto. On the next important day, namely 17 November, Petr Fiala brought the list of proposed members of the government and presented it to the President. His reward for having done his homework was his appointment as Prime Minister on 28 November. And since then there has been a difficult-to-understand series of individual meetings between politicians and managers selected by their future boss and the person who fulfils the self-appointed role of director of the personnel department at the national enterprise Czech Republic. In the old days, the position of personnel cleanliness watchdog was extremely prestigious and of considerable importance in the hierarchy of corporate management. But it was considered by virtually everyone to be overrated and by some even unnecessary. On the other hand, if the enterprise was in serious trouble, even the CEO and the cadre manager, backed by the authority of the party apparatus, could agree and act quickly. We have serious problems and we need to act quickly under the full legitimacy of the support of the House of Commons. Appointing a government only months hence would be a foolish, unnecessary and unforgivable mistake. It can be done by the end of the year.
